The microelectronics and software engineering graduate of Nankai University founded ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok in 2012 after garnering experience from working at other tech organizations like Microsoft.

With two major flagship products in the ByteDance net — Toutiao, an AI-backed news aggregator, and TikTok, a viral video sharing app, Zhang successfully groomed the company into what it is today — a multibillion-dollar blue-chip organization.

TikTok was crowned the most downloaded app of the first quarter of 2021 with over 689 million users across the globe and available in 75 different languages.

In 2018, Bytedance was valued at $75 billion according to Forbes. Bytedance is now said to be worth over $250 billion in 2021 according to the South China morning post, garnering a whopping $175 billion in the space of three years.
