Warren Buffett gives $4.1 billion to Gates foundation
American business magnate, Warren Buffett, has taken many by surprise with his recent line of action.
Warren Buffett announced that he is resigning from his position as a Trustee at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He also donated a whopping $4.1 billion to the foundation, living up to his 15 years promise to give away half of his wealth which was built through the success of his company, Berkshire Hathaway Inc.
Warren Buffett who is now 90 years old revealed that he has been a passive trustee at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for several years. He stated that the foundation has his unwavering support despite his exit.
Buffett also stated that he has delegated core responsibilities within Berkshire to persons within his company in order to lessen his workload.
The business magnate also donated over $41.5 billion worth of Berkshire Hathaway’s shares.
Warren Buffett affirmed his donations by saying:
“Over many decades I have accumulated an almost incomprehensible sum simply by doing what I love to do. Society has a use for my money: I don’t.”
Percentages of the donations were also disseminated to Warren Buffett’s late wife’s foundation, the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, the Howard G. Buffett Foundation which is being led by his children Howard, Susan and Peter, the Sherwood Foundation and the Novo Foundation.
