Considering how well Tik Tok has done in recent times, it is safe to assume that their members of staff feel immense pride and joy from being a part of the company. However, that is not entirely the case.

Some individuals who quit their jobs at Tik Tok, as well as those who turned down jobs from Tik Tok, have confirmed that they have a generic reason; Tik Tok’s 996 culture.

The 996 culture, popular amongst Chinese organizations, refers to a workforce system where employees work from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM for six days within a week.

One of the individuals said they had turned down a job from Tik Tok despite the salary being over £100,000 ($139,000) due to the company’s poor work-life balance policies.

An anonymous former staff of the company said:

“Everyone there is utterly miserable, and life is too short. During my first year before the pandemic hit, I can count possibly four or five weekends during the year where I did not work.”

Another former staff of Tik Tok who opted for anonymity said:

“The average working day at Tik Tok was 15 hours long. For them it was normal. Everybody was complaining but really everybody was accepting it at the end, probably because salaries were good.”

Tik Tok is yet to respond to these claims about the quality of its workforce.
