It has come as a shock to many that one of the richest couples in the world, Bill and Melinda Gates, is parting ways after 27 years of marriage.
On the 3rd of May 2021, the fourth richest man in the world and co-founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates, announced via Twitter that he and his wife, Melinda Gates, are getting divorced after 27 years of marriage.
Together, they own the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, a private foundation dedicated to bettering healthcare and poverty alleviation in the world. It is also the largest private foundation in the world and has $46.8 billion in assets.
The Gates are worth over $146 billion in total which has had many wondering how the division of finances is going to be carried out between the two. Although details about this haven’t been made known to the public, Bill Gates stated that he and Melinda will continue to lead their foundation together.
Since the announcement was made, many persons have taken to social media to express their worry and anxiety as regards what effects the divorce of the Gates might have on the global markets.
