AT&S to invest $2 billion in Malaysian Plant
An Austria-based company is Malaysia's latest investor.
Malaysia’s International Trade and Industry Ministry announced that semiconductor manufacturing company, AT&S, has committed to invest 8.5 billion ringgit which equates to $2 billion towards the establishment of a production plant in Malaysia. This is said to be the very first of its kind in Southeast Asia.
The production plant is to be located at Kedah and the construction will take place in Kulim Hi-Tech Park starting from the second half of 2021. However, commercial activities in the production plant are to begin in 2024.
AT&S’s specialization in the production of high-end circuit boards and semiconductors and Malaysia’s electrical and electronics manufacturing industry make the investment advantageous for both parties.
The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Muhyiddin Yassin stated that the investment of AT&S in Malaysia will foster the creation of more job opportunities for individuals who are focused on advanced electronics
The targeted net profit for the production plant upon the commencement of its commercial activities in 2024 was not disclosed.
